A slight hitch has come for those operators looking to provide online poker sites in France: namely, a slight delay in the issuance of licenses to June 28th. Licenses for foreign providers of horse race wagering and sports betting are expected to be released on June 11th – just hours before the 2010 World Cup kicks off.
As of June 1, 2010, American gambling laws have changed. The Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act (UIGEA) is now officially in effect. The UIGEA was actually drafted back in 2006 and has been hanging around as a bill. It was meant to pass into law back in December 2009, but the official date was delayed for six months to give lawmakers a chance to regulate the online gambling industry. This regulation never happened, and the bill has become a law.
OÜ Triogames has been granted an online gaming license by the Estonian Tax and Customs Board and becomes the third approved Internet gambling operator within Estonian borders. In announcing the decision, the board also added more sites to the country’s blacklist of IP-blocked websites. The list now contains nearly 300 sites firewalled from citizens under the new Estonian gambling laws.
Britain’s second-largest bookmaker, William Hill, is following Betfair in leaving the French market in response to new French gambling laws. In addition to announcing the withdrawal, a spokesman for William Hill did state on Wednesday that “In conjunction with the changes to the regulatory regime in France, William Hill Online is considering whether to apply for a licence to offer permitted online gambling products to French residents.” Read more about internet betting in France
